AllowPrivateEndpoint permits RemoteURL to point at a private or in-cluster endpoint: RFC 1918 and IPv6 unique-local addresses, and hostnames ending in "cluster.local". (Bare ".svc" hostnames are never blocked, since no DNS resolution is performed.) Enable this to reach a co-located in-cluster backend in-mesh so the backend's workload-identity authorization policy still applies. Loopback, link-local, cloud-metadata, and kubernetes.default endpoints remain blocked regardless of this setting.

The old location is still read for one release for backward compatibility; the VirtualMCPServer controller emits an AuthzPrimaryUpstreamProviderDeprecated Warning event whenever it is consumed, and removal is planned for the release after the deprecation cycle. SECURITY: if this field is omitted and no other authentication source is configured, the proxy runs UNAUTHENTICATED. It accepts every request that can reach its port and forwards it to the remote MCP server under a synthetic local-user identity, with no token or credential check. Set this field to enforce identity-based access control per request.

Replicas is the desired number of proxy pod replicas. MCPRemoteProxy creates a single Deployment for the proxy process, so there is only one replicas field (mirrors VirtualMCPServer.spec.replicas). When nil, the operator does not set Deployment.Spec.Replicas, leaving replica management to an HPA or other external controller. When set above 1, also configure sessionStorage with the redis provider and sessionAffinity: "None" so sessions resolve across replicas; otherwise a SessionStorageWarning condition is surfaced on the resource status.

Tolerations allow the proxy pod to schedule onto tainted nodes, such as a dedicated pre-warmed pool. On MCPRemoteProxy, spec.podTemplateSpec also reaches the proxy pod, and this list is atomic: a podTemplateSpec that sets tolerations replaces this field rather than adding to it.

Effect indicates the taint effect to match. Empty means match all taint effects. When specified, allowed values are NoSchedule, PreferNoSchedule and NoExecute.

TolerationSeconds represents the period of time the toleration (which must be of effect NoExecute, otherwise this field is ignored) tolerates the taint. By default, it is not set, which means tolerate the taint forever (do not evict). Zero and negative values will be treated as 0 (evict immediately) by the system.

sessionStorage object
SessionStorage configures session storage for stateful horizontal scaling. When nil, no session storage is configured and the proxy falls back to pod-local in-memory session state — incompatible with multi-replica deployments behind load balancers that don't preserve client-IP affinity (e.g. AWS ALB across multiple AZs). The transparent proxy validates `Mcp-Session-Id` against this store on every non-initialize request (see pkg/transport/proxy/transparent/ transparent_proxy.go) and rewrites client-facing session IDs to backend session IDs using session metadata. Both lookups require shared state across replicas. When using the Redis provider, also set sessionAffinity to "None" so the Service routes requests round-robin and all replicas rely on the shared session store rather than pod-local state.
